I look around and see so many people – of all ages – with their face in their phone.

  • Taking selfies everywhere.
  • Using apps to transform their faces into someone or something else. (Okay, this is kind of fun once or twice.)
  • Showing off for the camera – often unaware of their surroundings (breaking things outside of their camera view; falling or tripping, etc.) so they can post about themselves and /or to boost their loves or likes online.
  • Faking their selfies so they can pretend to be somewhere other than where they are.
  • Children as young as pre-schoolers are performing for the camera!

The energy of those habitually doing this, “Me, me, me…” carries the same type of energy signature for someone who has been diagnosed with narcissism*. And to me, that’s scary.

Narcissism

According to emedicinehealth.com, listed below are 8 of the 9 (or some sites list 10) features of narcissism:

  1. Grandiosity.
  2. Excessive need for admiration.
  3. Superficial and exploitative relationships.
  4. Lack of empathy.
  5. Identity disturbance.
  6. Difficulty with attachment and dependency.
  7. Chronic feelings of emptiness and boredom.
  8. Vulnerability to life transitions.

Do any of these sound familiar?

We (generalized) are losing touch, or have lost touch, with our true selves. We’ve also distanced ourselves from empathy for others, the art of verbal communication, social interactions outside of social media, to name a few.

We (again, generalized) have become a self-involved, self-absorbed society.

This behavior can take us further away from our true self. This time on Earth is to clear up our pasts (both this lifetime and past lifetimes) and to remember and/or re-learn how to be our true self. Not a self-absorbed physical self; rather a soul remembering its complete self.

How can we do this while we are so busy pretending to be everything but our true self?

Maybe it’s time to get our collective faces out of our phone cameras and rejoin the physical human race. There is some beautiful nature out there, and some really cool people.

What do you say?
