Classical Greek is what they speak.
Give me plain English any day of the week.
Sophocles, Socrates and Mesomedes
wrote about the great big meanies.
I’ll take Anacreon, Amphis and Phrynichus
They were much less serious
And displayed their antics until the crowd was delirious.
Women of the era, I knew naught
Until Erinna joined the lot.
Along with her came Elephantis
prized by the Emperer of Tiberius.
A manual of sorts
Which attracted many snorts
Of the snickering, sniggering kind.
Too bad this manual no one can find.
Wonderful writers they all came to be
But PLEASE somebody translate for me!
